Originally from the North East of England Helen has spent the past 30 years living in London initially working as a paediatric nurse then as an artist. She is mainly self-taught but has attended many courses at NEAC, British Museum, Royal Academy and London Print Studios. Helen enjoys learning new techniques but watercolour is her favourite medium.
Helen paints the world around her and often includes an architectural component in her work. Most paintings start with an ink drawing to give structure followed by a wash of watercolour. Her brush marks are loose and bold giving an impression of what she sees. Sometimes more ink is applied over the top of the paint.
Helen has recently made the move from London to north Devon where she is setting up a studio and exhibition space in her new home. She will soon begin a series of work inspired by her new surroundings.
Helen has taken part in several open studio events; pop up shows and has exhibited both in the suburbs and central London. She particularly enjoyed showing at the Crypt Gallery, St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square Easter 2013 and 2014.
Helen has taken many commissions with very varied requests from the Tour de France, a villa in Italy to angels in Highgate Cemetery.
