Artist's Profile

I studied ‘A’ levels and foundation art at North Devon College, and then went on to gain a degree in fashion and textiles at Kingston University.
After graduating I went to work for ‘Artwork’ designing knitwear and women’s clothing.
During the 15 years spent in and around London, having children, and leaving full time work, I have managed to fit in occasional design and illustration commissions, floristry work, and also some teaching.
I am now back in Devon with my husband and children, and am rediscovering my joy of art, colour and design through mixed media including printing.

Artist's Statement

 Old Favourite 

Vintage inspired design by Lucy Wakefield

 
To be surrounded by precious things that you love because they are worn, faded and full of nostalgia is my idea of heaven.

Everything I create from paintings, collages, prints and homewares is inspired by the past, each individual piece evoking special memories and feelings. ‘Old Favourite’ pieces are vintage in feel, whilst still being beautiful and practical for modern living.

Using my previous experience as a knitwear and clothing designer
I make everything by hand using sustainable and local materials where possible to develop these home textile ranges, prints paintings and commission work.

Based at home in my North Devon studio, I am constantly inspired, fuelling my imagination with hot chocolate, country walks family and friends. There’s also plenty of other stimulation with the exploits of my three children and my husband who manages our smallholding of pigs, hens and vegetable garden.
