John started as a Rock/Punk photographer but spent seven years as a Photographers Assistant in London working with top Advertising and Fashion photographers, including Barry Lategan, Michael Joseph, David Montgomery and Prince Steffano Massimo.
In 1982 he won the A.F.A.E.P. (Assoc. of Fashion, Advertising & Editorial Photographers) Professional Assistants Fashion Competition, and was third in the Reportage Section, becoming overall winner of the Black Book Award.
Returning to the West Country in 1994 he now works out of his Umberleigh Studio, specialising in Portraiture, Hotels and Business Interiors and Advertising Photography, on film or digital, and has now added Weddings to his portfolio.

As someone who was taught Photography is “painting with light” I love living in North Devon and am inspired by the Light, the Landscapes and the Characters.
Although I’ve embraced Digital Photography there is still part of me that prefers original Black & White printing, especially for Portraiture. |
