Artist's Profile

Ingka Wendlin

My pottery is handbuilt, low-fired earthenware.  As a trained Graphic Designer I fell in love with clay and tend to use my pieces as a painter might use a canvas: I love simple shapes and colour.
I was educated at Goldsmiths and the Central School in London.  I work in Northam, Devon.
My work is in collections in Britain, the United States, Canada, Holland, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Bosnia, Iceland, Australia and New Zealand.
My work can also be seen at www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk.

Artist's Statement

What we can, we will be.
In this statement I find a truth that gives me a great sense of freedom.
At different times in my life I can do different things and at those times I become a different, more rounded person.
I explore the fine artist in me when I draw and paint.
When I build ceramics I am the maker.
As the Graphic Designer I was trained to be I apply form and function to my work.
The colour in my work is inspired by the sea and the light of the North Devon countryside.
Each day I am at the beginning and I will be what I can.
