Artist's Statement

Work is produced in a variety of media including painting, ceramics, glass and mosaic and falls into two distinct areas: one exploring issues relating to global conflict and environmental problems , the other taking on a more decorative aspect.

In the first, there is concern with the duplicity of language and the way that it is often employed as a tool of persuasion in contemporary society. For this reason, titles are important and often interact with the image in ways that challenge accepted meaning and provoke reflection upon the use of words.

Decorative work centres more upon colour, pattern and surface texture, and especially in the paintings, on a search for a light which exists and glows within the image itself rather than one that mimics that of real world. Included in this area are ceramic tiles and sculpture, fountains, mosaics for walls or tables and works in slump or stained glass, mostly intended for permanent display outdoors.
